It's been a while since my last post. I'm sorry about this.
Our new artist on the site is an english photographer called Clare West. Her
images can seem very classic but in the same time there is a very special
flavour in them. A kind of nostalgia, something we find in the early
photographies of the 19th century. Textures, colors, mood, everything seems to
be diluted by the time machine !
I'm glad to count her amongst us !

Nardelli Verlag publishes the first book completely devoted to the technic
of scannography. And to the Art of Werner Abel.
You discovered Werner's work two months ago on scannography.org.
You can now discover it in this book. It's in german but the images are
universal !
Really, this book ist not to flip, but to swing open - like a scanner or laptop. Read this book and you never will see the nature as before. You will explore the nature in a completely new way. Enjoy it! While walking with his dog through the nature, the author, the German artist, Werner Abel, reflected on itself by collecting all what he found in fauna and flora: flowers, blossoms, leaves, grains, fruits, vegetables. Arrived at home, he scanned the found pieces with a customary flatbed-scanner.
The results have been very surprisingly and fascinating. Abel was deeply impressed. He suddenly could see details which he never have seen before and which the human eye commonly does not register. Depth of focus, quasi 3-D, from the middle to the edge. No Digicam can do this…
Reading this book, regarding the wonderful subjects captured by the scanner
you can explore the beauty of the nature in a wondersome matter. Enjoy totally
new insights into the nature, look inside the flowers, leaves and things.

Our september artist is a french painter, photographer, musician AND
scannographer : Jean-Louis
Aubert.
His work is full of spirit, mood and strange ambiances. This artist is a
complete talented one, managing various medias, he mixes his talents as well as
his images.
The scanns he presentes us areof two kinds: raw scanns where he shows some natural and weird beauties, and, on the other hand, worked out montages he does from the initial raw scanns. It's strange how some of them don't look as scanns anymore. Jean-Louis has pushed the possibilities a bit further and this is one more good thing… You can also see more of his works on his own site.

I had not much time in the last weeks but here we go again… I have to
present you 2 new artists : one for july and one for august. A great summer in
a way.
Werner Abel,
for july, is a german artist who is fascinated by the possibilities of the
flatbed scanner. He is presently publishing the first german book about
scannography at Nardelli publishing.
Luis Castelo, for august, is a spanish artist who teaches photography at the Fine Arts University in Madrid. His images are like nothing comparable, between scientific views and graphic design.

…and nature of course like most of us do, I'm pretty sure. Robert Fleming
works out backgrounds for his scanns and gives them a very special mood. One
can just imagine trolls or elfes appearing in some part of the images. Superb
color arrangements, great depth of fields and wonderfull compositions make of
his images, something classical in a way, yet very unique.
And looking at his images, I can also imagine (easily) that he must like
fishing, but that may be another story…

VanDelinder.
Beautifull scanns to discover on our site. Debb is mixing fragile elements into
powerfull and appealing images. Debb plays with the feelings she provokes and
with the magic of interference between opposites symbols. The end and beginning
of life mixed in a strange vision… And she sure knows how to play with light
and colors with a scanner…

We had Jaime Ruas, now we
got Bex
Wild.
Bex is painting on her flatbed scanner and she gets
amzing results
Now don't ask me how she proceeds. I can't explain. But Bex just sent me a
step-by-step, to explain her method. So if you come back to the site in the
next two weeks you certainly will get an answer.
In the mean time, enjoy the wonderfull images she shares on her page. The paintings
seem alive and liquid, it's a very organic sensation, and her colors are just

The artist for this month is finally on the site.
His name : Stewart Nelson. His work is mainly based on leaves and fronds and
bright colors. Stewart doesn't hesitate to alter the natural colors to arrive
at the result he wants. His images are strong, simple and appealing. Hs
compositions focus mostly on one main element and that gives strength to the
whole picture.
Stewart is a professional photographer living in Florida. And you can also take a look at his very graphic and interesting photographic works here.

Tamara Stoneburner is a
calligrapher and illustrator, she discovered the magic of scannography
recently. Tamara's work isn't the most astonishing but her pictures
show what scannography can be for many amongst us : the perfect media to
"pick up on intricate details of objects that are not noticed by the naked
eye" Her pictures are perfect in light, sharpness and colors. She seems to
see her work more like a testimony for what she sees around her, then as an
artistic form of imaging. She is also one of the rare persons that scans
insects and other little creatures, and, I must admit, this makes me feel less
alone !!!

Our new artist on scannography.org,
Algis kemezys, is well-known photographer who creates scannographies since
years now.He explain his work :
"I called them PreRaphaelite because they follow the "rules" of those
mid-nineteenth century poets and painters. They have unconventional
compositions (unlike any flower arrangements I have ever seen in photos or
paintings); there are pyramidal groupings (stacking); there is of necessity
more light on one side of the image than the other, causing an unnatural
depiction of the subjects; and there is absolutely a great emphasis on shadow
and tone to let the colours fend for themselves and work within the structure
of the image."
His images are colored in a very special way, like no other. The strange emanations coming out and slipping through the images, give a sense of weirdness and a strength to Algis's creations. If you want to know more about this artist, he gives a lot of informations on his own blog.

Finally some new things on our site !! I'm sorry I had no time before but I had hundreds of illustrations to create in the last 5 months.
So. Here we are presenting you a formidable photographer who is now working in scannography. The works Chad Kleitsch presents us here are divided in two parts. The first is the classical scannography theme : flowers and leaves, simply presented but in a perfect way. The second theme is much more personal, in my humble opinion. Chad works with papers, scanning letters, enveloppes, receipts but with an incredible lightning which gives almost live to those papers. Chad seems to have thought a lot about his way of doing things and the result is very sensitive and emotional. Here is an extract of his statement, which I find very relevant : "For some primordial reason when a new image making process or technique is created we innocently throw nature onto its surface, as some kind of ongoing test. Perhaps looking to see if it can match our own perceptual abilities and/or move beyond it."

The community continues to grow after a calm summer where I didn't
do anything on the site !!

Sierou-Aarten is a student in Art from Holland. She discovered the magic of
scannography seven years ago, and this technic became a passion for her. This
discovering reminds something to me, as it must for a lot amongst us.
Take a look at her beautiful creations. She seems fascinated by colors, lights and movements. Her works are close to Jens Standke's images. She plays with glass objects that she moves on the scanner while scanning. The result is amazing as it seems to represent some outerspace creatures or images from another dimansion. Which is, in a certain way, the case, as she distorts time and space with her method !

Yes I know, flowers, flowers, when it comes to scannography it
always comes to flowers.
But Roberta Bailey (she has her own
website here), brings the subject to a new level. At least to my eyes. She
plays with colors, transparencies, and lights without crashing the simplicity
of the elements she presents. Her creations are just perfect. The essence of
her body of work seems to be beauty, something that gets more and more lost in
Contemporary Art. That's maybe why we are not looked at as artists, but as some
bunch of amateurs playing with scanners !!!
Go and see
these images (on scannography.org) , I think you'll be amazed too
(especially if you like flowers as much as Modern Art, which I personnaly do,
being open minded is important these times).
I hope she will touch a large public and so help scannography get it's way
forward.

Redbubble is a site where everyone can exhibit Art, Design and
Photography for free.
A group has been formed there called "Scantastic - Scanned images"
by Jared D. White.
Jared recently contacted me to tell me about this group. It's an interesting
site, where you can find a lot of great images and artists. Some of them are
also on our site (hello Marsha). The site is easy to use and nicely done and
contains interesting eatures. Go and see some new images there. I also hope
some of these scannographers will take a look on our own projects and maybe
join in…
