A common exibition ?

Pierre Jarlan, one of our
artists on scannography.org
proposes a very nice idea for all of us…
We could find a place where we could do a common exhibition of scannography.
Pierre thinks of Paris, but if someone knows a better place or has already
contacts somewhere, or knows a gallery… it's a new idea we could all think of
because we could all gain of it.
Pierre also thought about having a common theme for this exhibition, like
"everyone empties his pockets and scanns what he (or she) founds in
them".
I like this idea a lot because as we are from everywhere on the planet, this
coud reveal very interesting differences !!

I hope this idea will make you react and I hope to read some comments and messages. Let me know if you are interested. So we could start an working on such a project.

Paris would be a great spot. I'd be interested in curating a show of scanography since I seem to be "collecting" the artists. However I have no influence or track record. The few galleries I've approached in the US NYC region, for a "collective" show seemed lukewarm to the idea. There is ONE traveling exhibit called "Scanner As Camera" in the US but the artists are all professors (understand why?). Several individual artists have had shows. There are a LOT of artists doing fabulous work but have never been exhibited. Scanographers are largely unknown- the most famous is Harold Feinstein and he mixes scanned work in with large format work- so viewers don't realize what they are looking at. And he won't admit he uses a scanner. Artistically this genre is not established and this ignorance has to be reversed. A major collective show would be a good start if we can find a venue or an individual to promote the idea -someone who grasps the importance of this medium and has influence in the proper circles. Personally I think a show of all botanical images would be appealing to the widest general audience, but scanography is not limited to only that subject matter. Scanned images of flowers just have it all over large format and conventional photographic techniques. So! Who knows the most influential people?!! I can write a "history" of the development of this medium.
Sounds interesting. I know someone in France that could possibly do the printing. I can't speak for him, but he has done several scanner photography shows in the past and might be up for helping with another one.
I'm less keen on the dump your pockets theme. Conceptually interesting, but I would not derail current projects to go in that direction.
I hope this idea will make it's way… I will try to contact a big "photography" place here in the south-west of France. But, as Patri says, I don't know the influential people. But lets give it a try. Maybe Pierre Jarlan has his own entries in Paris. I thought we could make a double theme. The one launched by Pierre (empty pockets) + a botanical one or something more "free" to each artist.
If we could have a printer doing it for a good price or maybe some company being able to put some money in, that would surely help ! We can always dream, no ?!
have you checked out the site http://faceyourpockets.com? it's an online project about people scanning the contents of their pcokets with their faces. :)
I will talk about this "faceyourpocket" site later, it seems very interesting. Thank you Chi
